ROSS-ON-WYE Photo Club recently held its second digital image competition of 2025. This was an ‘open’ category competition allowing members to submit photographs of their choice. Submissions were taken on digital cameras and smartphones.

The judge was Martin Fry of the Cheltenham Camera Club, who has exhibited in over 40 countries and gained some 500 awards. As such, he’s a very experienced photographer and judges many competitions.
He gave members very constructive feedback on every one of the 60 entries submitted which was appreciated by all of the Ross Club photographers.

The photographs of the first three places for the colour and mono sections; The winner of the colour photo section was a sports photograph taken by Gareth Nutt and entitled Attention!; second place was awarded to John Crowland for his photograph of Nash Point; Allen Ockenden’s image of a Laosian Girl came third. Highly Commended were Matthew Rainer and John Ryland for their contribution and commended was Chris Phillipson for his two images.

Allen Ockenden was the winner of the mono section with his photograph entitled Coming to Church; Gordon Hay was the runner up with his image of an all-but derelict fishing boat, entitled Retired. Third place honours went to Matthew Rainer for his photograph entitled Deep in Thought.
Highly Commended in this category were James Wilson and Paul Dowgill and commended were Sandra Walding and Allen Ockenden.

Ross Photo Club meets on Wednesday evenings at Walford Village Hall, 7.30pm to 9.30pm. There are free tester sessions for new members.
