HOMEBUILDER Taylor Wimpey South Wales has awarded £1,000 to Ross-on-Wye’s @theHub after the project was named winner of its Community Chest competition.

After launching its Community Chest competition in autumn last year, the developer was seeking to support a worthy cause near its Kyrle Green development at St Mary’s Garden Village.

Residents from area were encouraged to nominate a charity, organisation or individual who they believe deserved a helping hand.

Following numerous submissions, the community group, @theHub, was voted as the competition winner.

The hub strives to create a non-judgemental space for those in the locality to meet with support workers or other agency staff.

The project aims to help improve quality and conditions of life, to develop skills and to meet local needs.

Since its launch in June last year, @theHub has provided essential services for disadvantaged residents with the use of shower facilities, laundry services, bathroom facilities, hot meals, and a quiet place to enjoy tea or coffee.

The centre also offers internet access, workspaces, and is staffed by paid members of staff, and volunteers, who provide support who make and develop further connections with those lacking social interaction.

Annie Fisher, a director of @theHub said: “We aim to help those who do not have access to basic resources that many of us take for granted, hoping to improve their quality of life. “We're extremely grateful to the homebuilder for their donation as it will allow us to continue our work helping the community, providing resources and support for those who need it.”

Matt James, sales manager for Taylor Wimpey, said: “As we continue to build a new community in Ross, we’re delighted to be able to support a local group that delivers such an important support system in the local area.

“This is definitely a worthy cause, and we hope this donation will help it continue to deliver their important services in the town.”
