Current Ross on Wye Golf Club Lady Captain Lorraine Fenner held her Lady Captain’s Day at the club recently. The theme was tropical summer fun and after the unpredictable weather to date this summer, Lorraine was very relieved to have a day of beautiful warm sunshine. Forty seven ladies enjoyed playing in the Shotgun Bowmaker competition, which was won by Dinah Johnson, Christine Snell and Rhian Garbett- Edwards.
The Ladies Nett and Gross Trophy Weekend was held on Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23 with the scores from both 18 hole rounds being combined to find the winners of the Jean Reynolds Gross trophy and the Quaich Cup Nett Trophy. Ten ladies competed in this weekend competition and the winner of the Jean Reynolds Gross trophy was Hannah Keir with a score of 167. The runner up was Kerry Welding with a score of 172.
The Quaich Cup Nett Trophy was won by Nadia Stirling who played two impressive rounds scoring a nett 135 resulting in a well deserved drop in handicap. Mary Smith was runner up with a nett score of 144.
Nadia who broke her wrist in September of last year has worked extremely hard to recover her previous form and it has certainly paid off as she is consistently achieving success in the club competitions as well as winning the Nett Trophy representing Ross Golf Club at the Herefordshire County Championships in May.
Twenty nine ladies played in The Needham Cup June Medal Competition on Tuesday June 18. Lady Captain Lorraine Fenner won with a nett score of 72. Allison Charles came second on countback from Victoria Northcott with a nett score of 74. The best gross score was Hannah Keir with 86.
The individual Front 9 hole Medal Competition was played by nineteen ladies. Gaye Barcham came first with a nett score of 33 and was also best gross sore of 47. In second place was Kay Cotton with a nett score of 34, and in third place was Marie-anne Belton with a nett score of 36.
On Tuesday, June 11, The Kitkat Stableford Competition was played by thirty-two ladies. Ruth Pimlow won the competition with 36 points, Lois Price came second with 34 points and Mary Smith third with 33 points. Mary Smith was the winner of the Kitkat competition and will be representing Ross at the County finals.
Eleven ladies played in the Back 9 hole Stableford which was won by Christine Downs with 14 points on countback from Sandra Hampson in second place and Chris Crane in third place.
The 18 hole 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford played on Tuesday, June 4 was won by Nadia Stirling and Sally Fycun with 37 points. Hannah Keir and Kerry Welding were in second place with 36 points on countback from Julia Wilde and Victoria Northcott.
Twenty-two ladies played in the 9 hole 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford which was won by Ruth Pimlow and Sue Johnson with 20 points. Audrey Causon and Joan Punnet came second on countback with 18 points from Kay Cotton and Mabel Day.
