MONROSS Trailblazer Toby Dickens took on not one, but two, punishing Maverick trail races in one day on Saturday, finishing second in the first and winning the second.
In a field of 268 runners over 14km with 300m of ascent, Toby came runner-up in the Maverick Original West Sussex 2025 in an impressive 55.34.
Amazingly, he also entered the 10km Maverick Exposure Lights Dark West Sussex 2025, where he was the overall winner by over three minutes in 44.07.
Four Trailbalzers also headed for The Muddy Woody 6 race organised by Wye Valley Runners on Sunday.
This year saw a change of location, moving to the Queenswood Country Park & Arboretum near Leominster, where it proved a tough two-lap course totalling 6.8 miles, including out-of-control slippery descents and punishing climbs, and lots of mud.
Dan Sandford stormed home in 1 hour 1.57 for 14th overall and third over-55 man, while Faye Johnson finished first woman in 31st overall in 1.10.57.
Neil Harper was 45th overall and sixth in his category in 1.15.18, while Rachael Aitken was 122nd, finishing in 1.34.28.
Club members also supported parkruns on Saturday, with six heading to Monmouth for a 130-strong Chippenham 5k run.
Neil Harper crossed in 23.30, Emma Humphries in 25.05, Tony Davies in 29.14, with Rachael Aitken and Rebecca Rice together just a second behind in the latter’s fastest ever parkrun, and Nessa Ward in 29.58.
At Lydney parkrun, Gavin Jones placed second overall with a time of 18.50, while Emma Davies was at Mallards Pike having returned from a winter training camp in Gran Canaria and was third woman in 26.20.
Pip Cottrell also placed second woman at Hay Riverside Walk parkrun in 27.33.
