ROSS-ON-WYE RFC's mixed touch team travelled to Cheltenham Tigers RFC to take part in the South West Mixed Series 2 last week and came through unbeaten in Division 2.

This was a big step up for the club's touch rugby team who have only played in local tournaments before.

They drew with Nailsea 2-2 , beat Truro 5-3 and Bournemouth 4-2, drew 5-5 with Cheltenham Cubs, and then beat Bristol Chops 5-1.

In the game to decide first and second, Nailsea lost some players and forfeited to Ross who were crowned division champions.

The club posted: "Congratulations to all involved for representing our club so successfully.

"Thanks as always to Bradford Building Supplies who sponsor our kit and thanks to our coach Mark Jensen for passing on his skills and knowledge to the team.

"Next games are a friendly round robin with Trefy Panthers and Forest touch on March 21, and the next tournament is the South West Mixed Series 3 on April 6 in Bristol.”

Anyone who would like to join in can turn up at the club ground on Wednesdays at 6.45pm.

Meanwhile, the club’s 1st XV ran into newly-crowned Counties Four Gloucestershire champions Drybrook United on Saturday and fell to a 47-5 derby defeat.

In a game reduced to 30 minutes each way, the hosts scored seven tries including two each for Simon Rugman and Billy Bowdler and one each for Lee Clark, CJ Taylor and Charlie Rowley.

Ross will look to get back to winning ways away to Smiths in Cheltenham on Saturday, while Drybrook 1sts, who lead Regional 2 Severn, host Witney and United host Bristol Barbarians.

Drybrook were also celebrating a third Premiership Women's Rugby title in a row for their England star Natasha Hunt at the weekend, who helped Gloucester-Hartpury Women to a comeback 34-19 win away against Saracens at the StoneX Stadium.

Co-captain Hunt was sent to the sin bin early on after conceding a penalty try as Sarries raced into 19-5 lead through two tries either side of the seven-point penalty.

But two tries for the visitors before the break cut the deficit to 19-15, and Gloucester-Hartpury’s pack then dominated the second period, forwards Maud Muir, Neve Jones and Hunt 10 minutes from time adding three more touchdowns.

The result gave Gloucester-Hartpury boss Sean Lynn the perfect send-off as he departs the club to take on his role with the Wales national team, starting against Scotland this weekend.

"I've heard that the girls said I've put a rocket into them at half-time. That's why I'm so proud of these girls, they react so well. I said we need more energy, let's do what we take pride in,” he said.

"It's a dream come true [to win our third title], honestly. To have so many friends and family with me, it's an amazing experience.

"We've achieved so much, and to finish it off with three years in a row winning the PWR, it's a surreal moment."

Unbeaten and promoted Regional 2 Midlands West champions Newent 1st XV had a weekend off, and play their final home league game this Saturday (March 22) when they welcome Ludlow to The Rec.

They then travel to Moseley Oak for their last league match on April 5 before hosting Lichfield in the Papa Johns Cup competition on April 12.
