Ross Golf Club’s fifth and final Winter Stableford competition to determine the next batch of 12 men members to qualify for the Annual Barnfield Trophy event scheduled for Easter Saturday March 31st attracted 77 competitors with the prospect of some high scoring to match the Club’s forward greens and shortened yellow course.

Accomplished Ross Senior Mick Merrick certainly rose to the occasion with a masterly 42 points score to enable him to be the day’s top performer with an impressive round, which included two birdies and a score equivalent to Mick playing six shots better than his eight handicap. Runner-up with an equally impressive round, which included four birdies, was Cam Haines who plays off a three handicap. Cam approaches the completion of his term of office as Ross Juniors Captain before he will hand over the reins to 16 year old Liam Greig at the Club’s AGM on March 21st.

12 handicapper Martin Johnson, a qualifier following his performance in the second round, will have been both surprised and delighted with his 40 points haul and joining the qualifying list of Handicap Division 1 players were Martin Pimlow 39 points, Adrian Hope 38 points and Peter Bennett and Danny Gear both with 37 points.

From Handicap Division 2 players taking part 15 handicapper Jeremy Picton-Turbervill’s 41 points was the day’s stand-out score and as Jeremy is an existing qualifier from the 4th round, the six qualifiers aiming to achieve Honours Board Recognition over the Easter weekend are Club Captain Kim Hampson 40 points, David Mason, Ben Creese and John Tecke all with 39 points, Club Vice Captain, Robert Tuttiett 38 points and Charles Reeve-Tucker 37 points.
