Ross Golf Club’s 2019 Club Captain Martin Pimlow was delighted with the marvellous support received from all sections for his Captain’s Prize Competition with 129 members taking part in what proved to be a highly successful and enjoyable occasion.
For 12 handicapper Martin Johnson, now a buggy owner it was his first major victory on four wheels and his 42 stableford score resulted in yet another opportunity for him ‘to create sports news’ having spent over 40 years previously ‘writing about sports news’ for various newspapers and publications including the Independent, Daily Telegraph and Sunday Times.
Affectionately nick-named ‘Scoop’ in his earlier days, from his latest book covering sporting events all over the world Martin is described as sports journalism’s equivalent of Victor Meldrew.
This time though there was only good fortune to report with Martin grateful for having avoided the drama of a recent occasion when he did a Lewis Hamilton after his buggy blew a rear tyre and he had to abandon the round and limp back to the pits for a wheel change thanks to the Club’s Head Mechanic and Course Manager Steve Dun.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
