Ross Juniors Girls Under 9s topped their recent visit to Caldicot, where they won six out of six games in the Sudbrooke Tournament, when they went further afield to Barry Island last weekend.

This tournament saw them line up against four Welsh teams, two from Barry Island, one from Port Talbot and one from Cardiff.

The girls immediately picked up from where they had left off; the football they played was the best they have ever produced. Many of the other team’s coaches and parents came across to watch the Ross games and were incredibly complimentary about the girls’ football.

The first game saw Eva and Hannah score two goals each in a 4-1 win over Barry ‘A’. They soon followed this up with a 2-0 win over Barry ‘B’, with Eva and Hannah again scoring.

The third game on paper looked to be the toughest, physically, against a very large team from Port Talbot. A bruising battle saw a few scrapes, but the skillful Ross girls tore Port Talbot apart. The quick passing and quality finishing saw Ross win 8-0 with Hannah (3), Eva (2), Amelie (2) and Alisha scoring.

For the last game, after a prolonged break, the Ross team looked tired but sneaked a 3-2 win over Fairwater with goals from Hannah (2) and Eva.

Paul Flitney, the girls’ coach told the Ross Gazette:?“The whole team effort was incredible, Amelie and Amy pulled the strings in midfield and the defenders who were Izzy, Violet, Jenna and Hazel began many plays from passing out from the back. Summer, as ever, was ultra-reliable in goal and, when called on, pulled out some great stops.”

Paul continued:?“The last two weeks has seen the girls, who will form next season’s Under 10 junior team, win 10 out of 10 games in Welsh tournaments scoring 47 goals and conceding three.
