THE youngsters of Ross Juniors Women shone on Mother's Day at the Sportsground, presenting their mums with a six-point haul in a double header with Redditch.

In the first game, Macy Walker put Millie Malsom through to beat the keeper in a one-on-one for the opener.

But just before the break, a long ball caused confusion in the Ross defence, with the ball ricocheting into the net for 1-1.

Juniors pushed back and when the ball fell for Lauren Creed on 55 minutes, her cros-field pass saw Lily Irving slot past the keeper for 2-1.

Three minutes later Walker again won the ball and showed great feet to play Creed in behind to seal a 3-1 win.

Any thoughts that the second 60-minute game would be a stroll in the park were dispelled within four minutes though, when a ball over the top saw Redditch score.

And worse followed despite an unbelievable save from Juniors keeper Ruby Wood, as a Ross head from the resulting corner put the ball into their own net.

But a Meg Boardman free-kick then saw Holly Mace steal in to head home for 2-1, and two minutes later they were level, Macy Walker blocking a clearance for Mace to score under the keeper for 2-2 at half-time.

Three minutes after the restart, Malsom's cross found Creed who made it 3-2, before Irving added two quick goals and a Boardman free-kick completed a 6-2 win.

In men's football, Newent Town won through 4-1 on penalties in the Marsh Challenge Cup after a 1-1 draw at home to Tytherington Rocks.

But that was followed by 2-0 Hellenic League One reverses at home to Abingdon and away to Ludlow, leaving them bottom.

Ruardean Hill also lost 2-0 at Henbury to slip to ninth in the Gloucestershire League, but Lydbrook got back to winning ways with a 1-0 home victory over Barnwood to sit sixth in Gloucestershire Northern 2.

A Damon Beaumont brace and goals from Adam Beaumont and Charlie Meek fired high-flying Mitcheldean to a 4-0 North Gloucestershire Premier home win over Whitecroft, while Howle Hill and Huntley fought out a 1-1 draw, Chris Tookey and Will Freeman their respective scorers.

Ross Juniors fell to a 2-0 home loss to Sling in NG1, while table-toppers Longhope were also beaten by the same score away to Lydbrook 2nds.
