IT proved a week of two halves for Newent Town, who triumphed on penalties in midweek cup action before a 5-0 humbling away on Saturday.

The Daffs drew 0-0 at Chipping Sodbury in the Marsh Challenge Cup before a 4-2 spot-kick victory, thanks to penalty hotshots Ashley Bath, Essa Sabally, Elliott Vanstone-Peters and Riley Stokes plus great saves from keeper Adam Fenner, with a March 22 home tie with Tytherington Rocks the reward.

But Hellenic One Oxfordshire promotion-chasers Clanfield 85 had too much for the Daffs on Saturday, racing to a 4-0 lead before half-time.

Ross Juniors suffered the same 5-0 scoreline at Yorkley in North Gloucestershire One.

But Gloucestershire County top-half side Ruardean Hill Rangers won 4-2 at Quedgeley to go seventh, Kane Fellows and Ollie Mason twice putting them in front, before a Steve Clark second half brace took them clear.

Lydbrook Athletic's promotion push from Gloucestershire Northern One faltered again though, with a third straight loss, 3-1 at Barnwood.

Elsewhere, North Gloucestershire Premier leaders Mitcheldean were reduced to nine men with second yellows at home to title rivals Westbury United, but still drew 3-3 thanks to an Adam Beaumont hat-trick, leaving them a point ahead of the visitors with a game in hand.

Third-placed Huntley's challenge was hit though by a 3-2 loss at home to Lydney A.

Longhope marched on at the top of NG1 with a 4-2 home win over Sling, Nathan Whittaker firing a hat-trick and Jack Stacey the other goal.

And Henry Cooper helped deliver a knockout 2-0 blow for Lydbrook 2nds away to Staunton 2nds alongside a goal from Connor Fennell.

Ruardean United also won 4-3 at home to Mitcheldean 2nds to strengthen their grip on second in NG2, Finley Welch with a brace backed by Ollie Rocke and Josh Street strikes, while Connor Dix celebrated a consolation hat-trick.

And Ruardean Hill A secured a 3-1 NG3 win at Alvington Star, Aaron Barnett and Lee Johnson on the scoresheet.
