Midwest Counties Women's League
Ross Juniors Women 2 Worcester United Ladies 1
AFTER what seemed like an eternity without a game, Ross Juniors Women welcomed Worcester United on Sunday at Viney Hill FC in their first Mid West Counties game of the year – securing a battling 2-1 win despite having five 16-year-olds on the pitch for the final 20 minutes.
Second-placed Ross started well moving the ball around the big pitch, and on 12 minutes made the breakthrough when Lauren Creed cut inside and fired home for a 1-0 lead.
They continued to create chances, and but for some fine saves from the Worcester keeper would have increased their lead.
But Worcester then enjoyed a period of possession that Romerleigh Parker making her debut alongside Abbie Fuszard met full on at centre back.
Romerleigh picked up a knock though, which saw Jess Ruck come on to make her debut.
And on 37 minutes Creed played inside to Macy Walker whose immaculate control saw her race through to finish well for 2-0 at the break.
Skipper Walker had to come off at half-time to injury though, and with Worcester upping their game it became a physical battle.
Ross nearly extended their lead however, denied a goal by the offside flag, before the keeper pulled of a great save from Hollie Mace.
But on 78 minutes, Ross were rocked when a penalty was awarded to Worcester, and although Mica Walker in goal got a hand to the ball she couldn’t quite keep it out.
Ross then faced a series of corners as Worcester laid siege, but Hollie Mace won header after header as the young side dug deep to see out the win.
Juniors Women travel to face Halas Hawks in Halesowen in the league on Sunday (January 26) while Ross Ladies host Westfields in the Ross Invitational Cup.
