ROSS Juniors Ladies shone in the sunshine to lift some glittering silverware on Sunday, winning the Ross Invitational Cup final 3-0 against Belmont in front of a large crowd at the Sports Centre.

They started brightly but had to be alert to the pace of the Belmont striker who was causing problems.

But Ross took the lead in the ninth minute with youngster Summer Richardson Wall using her strength and pace to outrun the defence to slot the ball into the corner of the net.

Belmont hit back by striking the cross bar, but Ross then steadily took control of the midfield and it seemed only a matter of time before they scored again.

Good goalkeeping and determined defending kept Juniors out until just before the break, when pressure from the strikers forced a Belmont defender to score an own goal to make it 2-0.

The second half continued with Ross on the front foot and dominating and they struck again in the 68th minute with a real team goal, slick passing leading to Anna Craig rifling home from 18 yards.

Belmont missed a penalty and struck the post as they fought to get back into it.

But Ross, sponsored by Kings Accountancy Ltd, Ross Health and Fitness and Scaffolding 2000 Ltd, held out and could have scored more as they ran out 3-0 winners following an entertaining game played in a very sporting manner as always between the two teams.

Juniors Women however suffered a Mid West Counties League 2-1 defeat at Viney Hill to Droitwich Spa Ladies.

Second-placed Ross got the breakthrough in the first half when Macy Walker set a press for Lauren Creed to find Millie Malsom who showed quick feet to finish.

Kellie Cutter making her debut in the Ross goal then pulled off a superb save to see the hosts reach half-time in front.

But a blocked clearance and shot then saw Spa draw level, and four double-header games in a row seemed to take their toll as a tired-looking Ross conceded the winner in the last minute.

They will be desperate to bounce back at home to Welland in the league this Sunday (April 13), while Ross Ladies – currently fifth in the Herefordshire Women's League with games in hand – host Tenbury the same afternoon, both matches kicking off at 2pm.
