Kate Williams (Ross-on-Wye Bowling Club) was selected to play for England Short Mat Ladies when they were away to Belgium. Two matches were arranged, the first was a pre-international friendly on the Saturday and the second was the full international on the Sunday.

On the Saturday Kate played two sessions for England, the first was a singles which she won 17-8 and in the second game she skipped her rink to victory 9-7.

In Sunday’s international game Kate was selected to skip the rinks and won all three games (9-5, 11-5 and 10-3). Kate also played two singles, the first she won 15-3 but on her second game suffered her only defeat of the weekend when she lost 7-16.

England won the international 31-17 but certainly they did not have it their own way. At the half way point of the game Belgium led 15-11 and after the third session England had pulled this back to 18-17 down.

The final session was a clean sweep to England which gave them a great victory and Kate had certainly played her part in the overall win.
