THE Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion's biggest fundraising campaign held every year in November, during the period of Remembrance.
The Ross-on-Wye District branch are looking for volunteers to help them with this year’s national Poppy Appeal that will be launched on Thursday, October 24.
The group’s spokesman, Tim Barrett said: “This year we will be setting up our Poppy Appeal stalls in the town’s Morrisons and Aldi supermarkets, and we’d be really grateful for any help in manning these stalls and raising money for this incredibly worthy cause.”
The local organisers are seeking volunteers to offer their services for a two hour slot of their choice (or even more than one) to oversee these stalls and collect donations for the Poppy Appeal merchandise.
Volunteers will not be acting solo as they will be teaming up with two other volunteers on each stall.
Volunteers do not have to be a member of the Royal British Legion to volunteer.
The Poppy Appeal stalls will be based in Morrisons over the period Thursday, October 24 to Saturday, November 9, and in Aldi from Friday, October 25 to Sunday October 27.
Additionally a stall will be held in Aldi between Friday, November 1 to Saturday November 9 between 8am and 7pm.
Ross on Wye and District have proven to be, year on year, one of the most generous in the country. Last year the district raised over £19,000 for the Poppy Appeal, and with continued help from the people of Ross, perhaps the figure can be matched or even improved on.
“Please remember that your support, in whatever guise you choose, could be a lifeline for Serving and Ex-serving personnel and their families,” Mr Barrett concluded.
