A Fownhope girl is taking on the Bath Two Tunnels 5km Race next month to raise money for the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust charity.
In September 2022, 13-year-old Gabby Hancocks was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, an aggressive form of blood cancer, and spent nine months in Birmingham Children’s Hospital, receiving chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant.
Gabby said: “The charity brought crafts and games to play while I was at the hospital. They still sometimes come to my house with games for me and my sister to play.”
The charity also funded a “no isolation” robot to go into Gabby’s school to keep her in touch with her friends.
Gabby expects to complete the race through a combination of running and walking as she is still in recovery but is determined to finish.
The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust said: “We are thrilled that Gabby is fundraising for the charity with her fabulous Two Tunnels 5km challenge in Bath on the 2nd June. She set herself a big target of £2000 and has already smashed that by raising almost £3000- with still a month to go!
“We wish her lots of luck and thank her so much for making an incredible difference to help other local families who need our support"
