While members of Slimming World are always delighted to see the scales dropping every week, one of the downsides can be a wardrobe full of clothes which no longer fit.
This is exactly the situtation Gwyneth Gill found herself in as she notched up a magnificent five stone weight loss after attending Slimming World sessions in Ross-on-Wye.
Now, as part of a regional initiative by those attending the slimming sessions at the Larruperz Centre, Gwyneth and other members decided to donate clothes, shoes, and accessories that no longer fit to the Cancer Research UK shop in Ross.
Under the banner ‘The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw’, the Ross-on-Wye Slimming World groups, collected 126 bags, worth around £3,150 in retail sales for Cancer Research UK.
Slimming World consultant Debra Maloney, who runs the Ross-on-Wye groups, says she’s proud of how her members came together to support the charity as well as celebrate how far they’ve come on their own weight loss journeys.
She said: “Every week I’m inspired by my members and their dedication and determination to achieve their weight loss goals. They’re just as enthusiastic when it comes to getting involved in various events.
“I was bowled over by how many bags they filled with clothes that they’ve slimmed out of to raise money for such an important charity and they’ve made changes they can keep up for life.”
Trish Snow, who is also the assistant manager at Ross’ Cancer Research UK shop lost 12 pounds by going to the slimming sessions and reached her target weight.
Ms Maloney lost three stone 12 pounds 13 years ago and has stayed at the same weight since and added: “Being overweight doesn’t necessarily mean that a person will develop cancer, but we know that losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight can prevent a number of health conditions, including some types of cancer.”
• Debra’s Slimming World groups sessions are held at the Larruperz Centre every Monday at various times throughout the day and on Tuesdays at 7.30am and 9am.
