Preparations are well underway at the Ross-on-Wye branch of the Royal British Legion for their commemoration of The Falklands War, the 35th anniversary.
On Sunday, June 4th, there will be a Remembrance service, an exhibition and a grand parade to commemorate the Falklands War.
During the day, two of those who were killed will be remembered, Tim Jenkins, who was killed in action and originally from Ross-on-Wye, and Welsh Guardsman Gareth Griffiths, who lost his life on the RFA Sir Galahad, and whose family now live in Ross.
During the Falklands War, which lasted just over ten weeks, an additional 253 British Military personnel were killed, as well as three Falkland Islanders and 649 Argentine Military Personnel.
The Remembrance Service, beginning at 11.30am, will be held at Tudorville Cemetery at the graveside of Private Timothy Jenkins. It will be led by Reverend Colin Leggate and Reverend Andy White.
Visitors will also be able to view an exhibition in the Market Place, being organised by local historian, Mary Sinclair Powell, from 12pm.
The Parade will begin at 2.30pm and will march from Cantilupe Road along Gloucester Road to High Street. Everyone will then assemble at the Market Place, where there will be a short service, including the lowering of the Falklands Flag. The afternoon service will be taken by Rev’d Marcus Small, the Royal British Legion’s County Chaplain.
