St David's Day was celebrated in style with evening prayers at St Michael's Church, Walford on Friday March 1. The service included prayers in Welsh along with some rousing hymns sung by a full congregation, followed with delicious Welsh refreshments provided by the church members afterwards.
This was follewed by the monthly Coffee@StMary’sChurch on Saturday, March 2, hosted by the Welsh Speakers and Learners 'Sgwrs' Group, meaning 'chat' in Welsh.
Along with the usual coffee, tea and raffle, there were Welsh themed cakes galore!
The unexpected snowfall kept some visitors away however there was a large number in attendance.
They were delighted to hear Ruth Cartledge, a professional Harpist, play a whole medley of traditional Welsh Songs throughout the morning, along with soloists, Huw Thomas and Brian Jackson.
Some helpers dressed in full Welsh costume further enhancing the day.
The Welsh group have enjoyed the welcome they've had at St Mary's Church Coffee Mornings and after a couple of people started meeting last year for coffee and a chat they have now blossomed to 32.
If you are interested in finding out more about the Welsh group then please just come along on the first Saturday of each month for coffee and a chat.
The grounds of the Church are currently full of Spring flowers, especially alongside the Prospect and elsewhere.
