New bins which will accept recycling from community litter pickers are being installed at various locations around the county, including Homs Road car park in Ross-on-Wye.

The new bins have been funded by the High Street Community Clean-up Fund as part of a one-year trial of recycling litter. The bins can be identified by their ‘Stop the Drop’ and ‘Recycling from Litter Picks’ stickers, and have been installed at Kington, Old Police Station, Hereford, Three Elms Trading Estate and Vicarage Road, St James and Leominster Tourist Information Centre as well as in Ross.

Cllr Ange Tyler, Cabinet Member for Housing, Regulatory Services, and Community Safety, said: “We are delighted to be able to provide new bins at various locations in the county to allow material collected by community litter picking groups to be recycled. The funding from the High Street Community Clean-up Fund is for a one-year trial to allow recycling to be separated from general waste, and if successful, we very much hope it will be continued and expanded.

“While there continues to be irresponsible people dropping litter anything that makes life easier for our local network of dedicated, passionate litter groups and individuals is great news for the county, and I would like to thank all those who work so hard to keep Herefordshire litter free.”

Hereford litter picker, Emma Jones, said: “It’s fantastic for litter picking groups to now be able to recycle the litter they collect by using this facility, I’m sure it will be very popular. But what we really want is for Herefordshire residents to Stop the Drop!”
