A BRAND-NEW housing development in Ross-on-Wye has officially been completed.

Middleton Avenue, which began the building process in March 2022 now offers a range of housing types and sizes including accessible bungalows.

The 44 homes – which have been constructed on a timber frame system – are made up of 17 for affordable rent and 27 shared ownership. The homes are being let, sold and managed by Platform Housing Group.

The development – which is based in Horsefield Road in the town – is in an established residential area.

Wahid Iqbal, project manager at Platform Housing Group said: “We are delighted that the housing development at Middleton Avenue has come to fruition, particularly as there is a significant need for affordable housing in the county.

“It really is a beautiful site, located amongst rural fields and classified as an area within the River Wye Special Area of Conservation, with the homes enjoying green distant views.  It also includes a traditional play area for children.”

During the lettings interview process, it became clear that some of the applicants had been bidding for properties for a number of years, trying to get out of overcrowded homes, caught in an unaffordability trap and even homeless.

One woman who was successful in obtaining a two bedroom house said : “Since I moved in earlier this summer, it has been life changing for me and my daughter.

“We can do so much more as I don’t have to rely on a car, and it is walking distance to everything.

“Me and my daughter now have our own space after sharing the same small bedroom for more than three years.  The house itself is perfect in every way possible.  I can’t thank Platform enough for giving me and my daughter such a beautiful place to make our home.”

The development has been part funded by Homes England. E G Carter & Co Limited undertook the construction work; the developer employed Gloucester based Quattro Design Architects.
