THE Ross-on-Wye community is coming together to launch this year’s Poppy Appeal.

On Thursday, October 24, the Ross and District Poppy Appeal will be launched at the Morrisons supermarket in the town.

Under the leadership of Jo Morris, with the support of the of Ross and District Branch of Royal British Legion, Sue Parker and Janet Auty and the committee have worked tirelessly over the past three months to prepare for the appeal.

Over 130 collection boxes have now been distributed to businesses throughout the town.  Over the period, from the launch date to November 10 over 120 volunteers will be covering over 200 collection ‘shifts’ in Morrison’s and Aldi.

In addition, Navy / Royal Marines, Army and Air Cadets will be supporting the appeal.

A spokesman for the appeal said: “Wearing a poppy is a show of support for the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, veterans and their families.

It represents all those who lost their lives on active service, from the beginning of the First World War right up to present day.  From paper poppies to pins, bag charms to pet poppies, the best way to wear a poppy is simply with pride.

“Please give generously to support the ongoing work of the Royal British Legion. This is a fabulous community effort being undertaken in Ross.”
