HOUSEHOLDS are set to get new weekly kerbside food and garden waste collections within a year.

Herefordshire Council’s cabinet of leaders are expected to approve next week (May 1) proposals for a new household food waste collection regime.

The moves will help the council meet its own recycling targets, which it hopes will go from the current 40 per cent of waste to 58 per cent.

Households in the county will be issued with a small food waste caddy to use in the kitchen and a larger outdoor caddy which will be collected each week.

Meanwhile a fortnightly, year-round garden waste collection service is also planned from next year, which households would have to opt into at a proposed cost of £60 a year.
