A COMMUNITY project that offers a safe space for vulnerable people has been awarded a donation just in time for Christmas.
The Ross-on-Wye based @theHub, which has only been running since June, has been awarded the grant by Platform Housing Group.
The donation was part of the social landlord’s yearly community kindness campaign, which will see it support five local specialist organisations, charities, food banks and events across its Herefordshire communities, totalling £3,000.
The housing group’s campaign will have donated £82,135 by the end of this year.
Leah Gummery, community engagement officer at Platform Housing Group said: “The facility of @theHub in Ross is a new recipient on our list this year and we are delighted to offer them much needed financial support for the amazing work they do in the local community.
“It is a safe and welcoming space for those in need; we have seen first-hand how much it truly means to those who find solace in its walls.”
Milly Boylan, one of the directors of @theHub said: “We are really humbled to receive such a wonderful donation from Platform and we would like to offer our grateful thanks.
“Our ethos is to empower individuals and strengthen our community but without the generous support of our partners like Platform we would be unable to provide the services that we do.”
The community project @theHub was formally opened by the High Sheriff of Herefordshire in the summer and aims to improve people’s quality of life and to help them develop essential skills.
It offers a space to meet support workers and other agency staff and to access help and advice with benefits, debt, housing problems and health and addiction issues.
Leah concluded: “We are also delighted to make a contribution towards @theHub’s Christmas dinner for 40 members of the community. Merry Christmas to them all.”
