Gibraltar Nursing Home in Monmouth has rallied its community, raising an impressive £1,000 for the Alzheimer's Society through a sponsored walk, passes through Symonds Yat. The 8.4-mile trek was a manifestation of the home's commitment to combating Alzheimer's disease and supporting those affected by it.
Bridget Ioannide, a House Leader at Gibraltar, set the tone for the day with a speech. "Somewhere in the world a person gets diagnosed with a dementia every 3 seconds," she said, snapping her fingers to underscore the urgency. "Not only that but there are around 900,000 people in the UK living with a dementia."
The walk commenced at Monmouth Rowing Club, meandered down to Biblin's swing bridge, and looped back to Monmouth. Throughout the route, the team wore blue Alzheimer’s Society t-shirts and even received £55 from supportive passers-by.
The participants, comprising team members and relatives, completed the walk. The event highlighted the nursing home's focus on community and its resolve to contribute to a meaningful cause. The initial sum raised was £792.50, but Gibraltar Nursing Home rounded it up to £1000. This donation will fund crucial research and support services for those living with dementia.
The team expressed sincere thanks to everyone who contributed and urged others to keep supporting this vital cause. Gibraltar Nursing Home prides itself on its holistic approach to care, emphasising the unique identity of each resident. To learn more about their work, one can visit their website.
