ELLIE Chowns, Member of Parliament for North Herefordshire, has reached two impressive milestones in Parliament, having cast her 100th vote and delivered her 100th spoken contribution last week—just nine months after being elected.

On the same day, Ms Chowns supported the Planning and Infrastructure Bill during its Second Reading, marking her 100th vote.

She also reached her 100th spoken contribution in the House of Commons, discussing the importance of early support for children and families to prevent more children from being taken into care.

In addition to her speeches and votes, Ellie has been actively holding the government to account, submitting 143 written questions and tabling or supporting 326 Early Day Motions.

She has served on both the Environmental Audit Committee and the Bill Committee for the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill. Furthermore, Ellie plays a pivotal role in various cross-party groups, including:

  • Chair of the APPG for Water Pollution, which she founded to restore North Herefordshire’s rivers, such as the Wye and Lugg
  • Vice Chair of the APPG for Europe
  • Vice Chair of the APPG for Fair Elections
  • Officer of the APPG for Human Rights

Since taking office, she and her team have dealt with nearly 1600 pieces of correspondence, helping to resolve issues raised by constituents.

She has held more than 20 surgeries, meeting with over 150 constituents in one-on-one appointments.

Reflecting on her achievements, Ms Chowns said: “I’m incredibly proud to represent North Herefordshire in Parliament and to be working hard to give our communities the voice they deserve. Whether it’s speaking up in the Commons, helping people with casework, or visiting local groups and businesses, my aim is always to be an energetic, committed, active and accessible MP for our area.

“There’s still so much to do, but I’m 100% focused on continuing to stand up for North Herefordshire and push for the changes we need.”
