ROSS Photo Club recently held its’ final Open competition of 2025 which allowed members to submit up to three images of their choice in a mixture of digital images and/or photographic prints.

The judge was Bob Goode from the Stourport Camera Club who, having gained Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society and gave feedback on all the entries submitted which was appreciated by the Ross Club photographers.

The digital and print sections winners were Gareth Nutt’s A Try Saving Tackle taking first place with Brian Challis image of Bubbles on A Fiver being the runner up and Allan Ockenden’s Coming to Church being third.

In the print section Chris Hawkins was the winner with his image of a Lonesome Leaf, while Mike Webb was voted the runner up with his photograph of a White Moth Orchid. John Crowland was third with his image entitled Landed with Lunch.

The club members also voted on the image of the year which was won by Gareth Nutt with his photograph taken during a rugby match. This was Graham’s second consecutive win, as he also won this title last season.

Ross Camera Club ran eight competitions over the 2024/25 season and the overall winner across all competitions, and club photographer of the year was Paul Dowgill, with Gordon Hay in second place while John Crowland and Allan Ockenden were joint third.

A selection of the club’s work will be displayed in an exhibition at St Mary’s Church in Ross-on-Wye during the first few weeks of August.

The Club meets on Wednesday evenings at Walford Village Hall, between 7.30pm and 9.30pm, during October to May. There are free tester sessions for new members. Beginners and accomplished photographers are all welcome. Just go to the website rossphotoclub.org for more information.
