SLIMMING World members in Ross-on-Wye have raised a whopping £6,469 for Cancer Research by donating the clothes they slimmed out of.
The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw is an initiative that has been running annually in corroboration with Cancer Research UK.
Ross participants are donating good quality clothing, shoes, and accessories that no longer fit – and they’re confident they will never need again.
The Slimming World group, which meets at the town’s Larruperz Centre collected 230 sacks to help support life-saving research.
Debra Maloney, Slimming World’s consultant in Ross said she is proud of how her members came together to support the charity as well as to celebrate how fare they’ve come as part of their own weight loss journeys.
Debra added: “It’s always a pleasure to see the excitement in the group when the annual challenge comes around. When you’re losing weight, it can be easy to focus on the number on the scales, without realising how many non-scale victories are happening in the background, like changing dress sizes and body shapes.”
The event also raises awareness of how maintaining a healthy weight reduces the risk of 13 different types of cancer.
“This event celebrates those victories as it is all about the members donating their old wardrobe while raising money for an important cause.
“Being overweight doesn’t necessarily mean that a person will develop cancer, but we know that losing weight and maintain a healthy weight can help prevent a number of health conditions.”
Over the years, Slimming World has raised more than £25m for Cancer Research UK through various campaigns.
Last year the Ross-on-Wye Slimming World groups, collected 126 bags, worth around £3,150 in retail sales for Cancer Research UK.
• Slimming World groups sessions are held at the Larruperz Centre every Monday at various times throughout the day and on Tuesdays between 7.30am and 9am.
