UPDATE: The man who died at the scene of a collision between a car and a tractor on Monday, August 28th, has been named as Seth Fellner, a 46-year-old man from Coleford. The inquest was opened on Friday, September 1st and has been adjourned to allow for further investigations.A man has died after a crash took place between a 4×4 and a tractor that had been pulling a trailer carrying hay bales.

It happened last night (Monday, August 28th) at approximately 9.45pm, on the A49 between Bryn Garth and Much Birch, near to the Axe & Cleaver.

Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman: “On arrival, ambulance staff found the 4×4 on fire with a hay bale also on fire.

“The man driving the 4×4 was confirmed dead at the scene.

“A 34-year-old woman, who was in the front passenger seat in the 4×4, had been able to get out of the vehicle and was treated for facial injuries at the scene before being taken to Hereford County Hospital.

“The tractor driver, a 49-year-old man, was clearly distressed but was uninjured and didn’t want to go to A+E.”The A49 has been closed in both directions between the A466 and the junction with the A40. The road is expected to be re-opened later today (August 29th). Drivers are advised to find an alternative route until then.Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact West Mercia Police by calling 101 and giving the incident reference: 896-S-280817.Update: The Ross Gazette understands that the road closure on the A49 is due to be in effect until approximately 7pm this evening (August 29th), as emergency road repairs are currently being carried out.
