Ross RFC opened their league campaign with a bonus point home win against Bristol side Broad Plain by 26 points to16 points. Ross pressed hard from the kick off but solid defence from the visitors prevented a score. After 10 minutes Broad Plain won a scrum, eight metres from the Ross line and their No 8 drove through weak tackling to score a converted try. Three penalties followed, to leave Ross trailing by 16 points. Just seven minutes from half time, winger Craig Smith picked up five metres from his own line and made good ground before chipping ahead. Flanker Josh Morgan and scrum half Alex Jenkins chased hard, made the vital tackle and recycled the ball. It was moved quickly to centre, Tom Davies who rounded the defence and scored under the posts. Full report in this week's Gazette.
