It was three wins out of three for the Goodrich ladies last week when all three teams were in action.
First up were the ‘B’ashers playing away to Wellington on Wednesday evening. The team, consisting of Kirsten Mathews and Wendy Jenkins as first pair, and Carolyn Riddell and Karen Hawley playing as second pair, won three out of the four rubbers.
This victory keeps them in the top spot of Division 6 in the H & W Summer League. They have one more match to play which is away to Leominster B on Monday, July 30th.
Next up were the ‘C’hasers playing the following evening away to Ledbury C where they recorded their best win of the season so far. The strong pairing of Katie Hunt and Kayla Coopey saw them win both their rubbers in straight sets. Karen Hawley and Debbie Trigg won their first rubber but dropped the second, but even a flat tyre on the journey home could not deflate their spirits, as they have moved up to two places in the division and are looking to improve on this.
Finally it was the turn of the ‘A’ttitudes to round off a very successful week, and they did this in fine style at home to Manor Park ’B’ on a very hot Saturday afternoon. Even the spectators were called into action keeping the players replenished with cold drinks.
First pair, Rachael Wintle and Cath Hutchinson, won both their rubbers in straight sets, giving each other plenty of vocal encouragement when required. Second pair Jill Brown and Kirsten Ainsworth got off to a slow start in their first rubber, losing the first set, but turned this around to win the next two.
Their second rubber was also a long drawn out affair, again a three setter, and going to the wire with two tie-breaks, but with plenty of support from the pavilion they managed to come out on top. Last but not least, third pair Kim Martin and Steph Howell were very business-like in their approach to their two rubbers. They took the heat into consideration so the less time spent on court the better, which they did in fine style, dropping only six games in total over the two rubbers.
This result has moved the ‘A’ttitudes up to fourth place after five matches in Division 3, and they will be looking to pick up more points when they take on Stourbridge C on July 14th at Goodrich.
