Longlevens RFC 38 Ross RFC 18
Ross travelled to Longlevens on Saturday (September 16) and started really well.
Thai Hayward, former No 10 and now playing at No 8 kicked Ross’ first points from 25 yards with a penalty.
And he furthered the score with another penalty from almost the halfway line.
Ross kicked to the corner and from the lineout, flanker Gavin Oates collected and laid off to Hayward who peeled off from the back of the line to score in the corner.
He converted from the touch line to put Ross 13-0 up.
But Longlevens pulled the scores back with a converted try on 24mins and then added another just before the interval making the scores 14-13.
Ross lost prop Lee Lusty through an ankle injury in the second half and Longlevens started to pull away.
Two further tries coming from their young and pacey backline put them 26-13 to the good, but Ross rallied and from another lineout in the corner, Oates again passed to Hayward on the peel, and he put in hooker Max Roberts to score.
Ross dug deep but could not stop two further Longlevens tries, both of which were converted under the sticks.
It was a valiant effort from the Ross team, with man of the match being captain Hayward who scored 13 of Ross’ points.
Elsewhere, Newent 1st XV made it three wins from three beating hosts Moseley Oak 40-31 to go top of Regional Two West.
Josh Miles, Nathan Brooks, Nathan Alford and Dan Fletcher all scored tries.
