There were celebrations all round at the Ross-on-Wye bowling green on Saturday, July 11th, as they celebrated the birthday of a former club member.

Win Oakes turned 90 recently and a surprise party was thrown in her honour.

The former bowler, who won a total of 23 club and county titles in her bowling career, was only expecting to watch Ross play against Worcester but was greeted by a party.

Mike Baugh, 74, who organised the party for Win, said: “It’s fantastic, she was always great to play with so it’s nice to be able to do something like this for her.”

Win last played in 2005 and sadly since then has lost mobility and is housebound because of this, it was the first time she had been to the club in several years.
