MONROSS Trail Blazer Sam Weale went the extra mile, braving the heat and the distance to finish fifth in the 50km Pegasus Heart of Wales Ultra Marathon.
The hilly course near Llanidloes took a field of 117 runners to the source of the River Severn and included 4,500ft of ascent.
Sam finished in four hours 50 minutes, just 10 minutes behind winner Gwynant Jones.
He hasn’t be the only Trail Blazer to go the distance, either, Mark Killeen completing the 1,100ft elevation, 26.2 mile Worcester Marathon in 3 hours and 12 minutes.
Rob Nicholls also ran a highly respectable one hour 25 minutes in the Lisbon Half Marathon in Portugal in temperatures of 26C.
And Luke Gray set a 10k PB of 35.37 finishing 11th at the Berkeley 10k a week after running a 5k 16.41 PB at the Hereford 5k.
Back on home soil, Rob Nicholls finished second in Saturday’s Ross-on-wye 5km parkrun in 18.20, with Matthew Hall fourth in 18.46c, Richard Bevan 11th in 22.02 and Grant White 13th in 22.08.
Fastest man was Monmouth School for Boys maths teacher Huw Evans, an over-50s star, who scorched round in a PB 17.29.
The free weekly parkrun is open to everybody and usually takes place at Ross Sports Ground on Saturdays at 9am.
