LONGHOPE FC have a new-look strip as they celebrate a forthcoming landmark.
The club was founded in 1905 and has reverted to a red strip which they wore when they won the Geo Sandoe Cup in 2021.
On Saturday (Sepember 7), they came from behind to beat Redbrook Rovers in Division One of the North Gloucestershire League.
Tom Maxted grabbed an early goal for Redbrook when he intercepted a back pass and went around Longhope keeper Matty Hill to score.
The home side was back on even terms almost immediately when man of the match Floran Crainic scored from the spot after making a driving run into the box.
Maxted then restored Redbrook’s lead with a close range header but Crainic made it 2-2 just before half-time with a shot from the edge of the box which hit home in the top right corner.
Longhope were awarded a second penalty after some great work in the box by forwards Crainic and Harry Daunter in the box.
Crainic converted for his hat-trick and his seventh goal in two games.
Daunter had a chance to make it 4-2 after perfectly controlling a deep cross from left back Robbie Clark but Redbrook keeper made a brave close range save to deny him.
Longhope had to dig deep towards the final 10 minutes with some strong defending and aerial wins from Ben Andrews and Dwane Morris at the back while James Purshouse made some decisive tackles in the middle of midfield.
Longhope subsitube Rick May also had an opportunity after running from halfway but he put his shot just over the bar.
On Sunday (September 15) Redbrook face Huntley in the final of the West Dean Charities Cup.
