Ross Tennis Centre's U18 boys team remain unbeaten when they successfully defeated Redditch last Saturday. Both teams had won their previous fixtures so the Ross boys knew it would be a close encounter and so it proved. Christian Porter got procedures under way with another dominant display and proved far too consistent for his opponent, winning 6-0, 6-2. Mike Evans fought valiantly against the Redditch number two but lost narrowly 5-7, 4-6. After winning a closely fought first set, 6-4, Conor Kearns relaxed and found top form racing through the second set 6-1. Playing at number four for Ross was Alfie Davies who was up against a talented leftie with this match being decided by a third set tie break with Alfie prevailing 7-6 3-6 10-7. Needing to win one of the upcoming doubles to secure the overall result, the nerves were beginning to show. Conor and Alfie won the first set of their match 6-4 before losing the second set 1-6 against the determined Redditch pairing. Things looked good for the Ross boys in the deciding match tie-break when they had three match points at 9-7, but their opponents showed great resolve by saving these and went on to win the match 11-9. As this match was taking place Christian and Mike were involved in a first set that swayed one way then the other, before being decided by a tie break which went to the home side. The second set was equally as tight before Christian and Mike finally secured a crucial break of serve at 5-4 to win the set, match and fixture. The boys travel to Stourport on Sunday June 16 for their final match.
