ROSS Juniors Women made the club's first ever appearance in the women’s Adobe FA Cup on Sunday against Royal Wooton Bassett Ladies.
And although the result didn't go their way, it was a fantastic occasion at the Sports Ground enjoyed by some 200 spectators.
It was always going to be a tough task for a team of teenagers against opponents who have played tier 5 football and now sit near the top of tier 6.
Ross knew they would have to dig deep and matched the visitors for the opening 15 minutes.
But Hannah Gulliver then stole possession before proceeding to round home 'keeper Imogen Stephens and slot home for the lead.
It was doubled on the half-hour mark when star striker Gulliver fired in from a Kat Bach cross after the latter seized on a loose throw in.
Juniors then pulled one back with Millie Malsom connecting with a corner to score the first ever FA Cup goal for the club.
But just before half-time the hosts got undone on a corner as Gulliver completed a hat-trick, poking in at the far post for 3-1 before going off injured.
Ross also had a penalty for handball, but it was expertly saved by Mille Powell.
Juniors took the game to the visitors after the break and were still in with a shout at 3-1 down with 10 minutes to go.
But a counter attack then saw Lucy Goodright through on goal, and although Stephens saved, the rebound found Bach who made no mistake.
And in stoppage time a late corner was steered home for a somewhat unfair 5-1 scoreline.
A Juniors spokesperson said: "This was a great experience for the Women’s team who had just one player over the age of 18!
"They will learn and gain valuable experience from today, and this will only help them as they take the jump to step 7 football this season.
"The club could not have done today without the continued brilliant main sponsorship of 21Wellbeing of the team.
“Also thank you to HP Scaffolding Ltd and The Hope and Anchor – Ross On Wye, the Prince of Wales pub for the ball sponsorship and Adam Jewitt for programme sponsorship and making a ball plinth for the occasion.
"Thank you to our wonderful mascots and ball girls. The support from our younger teams was greatly appreciated.
"And finally thanks to RWBTFC Ladies for being fantastic opponents – they even cleaned the changing rooms afterwards!"
Ross Juniors Ladies were also in action on Sunday, sharing the points in a Herefordshire Women’s League 2-2 comeback draw at Westfields thanks to two goals from Jenii Harrison.
They play Hereford Lads Ladies at home on Sunday (September 8), while the Women will visit Worcester United on September 22.
