THE boot was definitely on the other foot as Newent Town suffered a 9-1 Marsh Cup walloping at home to Wellington on Saturday, two days after the exit of their management team.

A volleyed goal from Dean Lee three minutes before the break brought the Daffs back to 3-1, but three more Wellington goals in first-half stoppage time made it 6-1 at the break.

And they leaked another two within five minutes of the restart to trail 8-1 before the Daffs' Tom Randall hit the bar with a header and a final ninth Welly goal in the 73rd minute.

The Daffs will be hoping to replace former managers Dan Gough and Sean McKeon quickly to restore some stability.

And the 2nds didn't fare much better, battered 7-1 away to Bristol University in Hellenic 2 West, Solomon Osinuga with the second half consolation, where Newent held the hosts 1-1 after trailing 6-0 at the break.

Ruardean Hill Rangers lost 2-0 at Sharpness in the Gloucestershire Cup, but Lydbrook Athletic shared the points in a Gloucestershire Northern 2 1-1 draw at home to King's Stanley, Mike Donaldson with the goal.

But Howle Hill fell 4-1 at Weston playing fields to Milkwall, Kristian Milnes with the consolation.

Ross Juniors didn't have a match in NG1, where Longhope top the table after a 3-2 home win over Redbrook.

Lydbrook 2nds also launched their campaign with a 2-0 home win over Yorkley, Steven Baldwin and Jack Stacey the scorers.

Ruardean United are level on points at the top of NG2 after a 3-2 home win over Mushet & Coalway 2nds, Oliver Pearson, Alex Rowles and Josh Street the hitmen.

Lydbrook A are equal top of NG3 though after Benedict Harris and Simeon Jones fired them to a 2-0 win away to English Bicknor 2nds, while Ruardean Hill A lost 3-0 away to Westbury 2nds.

Meanwhile, Ross Juniors' female teams both enjoyed thumping wins.

The Women bounced back from their 5-1 Women's FA Cup exit to Wooton Bassett with a 6-0 friendly win at Cinderford ahead of their Mid West Counties campaign, Lily Irving scoring a hat-trick, backed by goals for Hollie Mace, Holly Thomas and Izzy Clarke.
