ASTON Ingham's cricketers warmed up for Sunday's (July 21) National Village Knockout Cup quarter-final with a thumping 206-run 1st XI win over Kingsholm to strengthen their grip on top spot in Gloucestershire Division One.

Third man Anthony James fired 94, including 12 fours and a six, sharing a 104-run partnership with Angus Bartlett, who scored 59, followed by a 96-run partnership with Jack Carpenter, who notched 53.

Dharzekanth Yoganadan also added 23 and Gus Carini-Roberts 21 as Aston racked up 310-6 off their 45 overs.

The bowlers then steamed in, skittling Kingsholm for 104 in 31.5 overs, Toby O'Neill taking 4-16-8, Carini-Roberts 3-8-1.5 and Oli Dennis 2-17-5.

Saturday's win will boost confidence ahead of hosting fellow Gloucestershire outfit Dumbleton in the last eight of the Village Cup from 1pm, with Aston hoping for some great support at the weekend.

Ethan Drew-White took five wickets for 13 runs off eight overs for the 2nds away to Arcadians 2nds, but couldn't prevent them missing out by four wickets having been dismissed for 141 in 39.4 overs.

Jimmy Davies and Tim Dulson were Aston's top scorers both with 29 before the hosts replied with 145-6 with 2.9 overs to spare, Simon Clark with the other wicket.

But the 3rds won by 64 runs away to Corse & Staunton 3rds, Alexander Whitehouse firing 58, Clyde Breetzke 54 not out, Edward Bell 36 not out, Leo Lockwood 27 and Charlie O'Neill 25 in their 254-6 off 40 overs.

The hosts were then limited to 190-9, Andy Gardner taking 4-20-8.

And the 4ths also won by a tighter 26 runs at home to Highnam Court 2nds.

Johan Nieuwoudt hit 70, including 10 fours, backed by former top National Hunt jockey Tom Scudamore with 34 and Sam Waterhouse 20 as Aston reached 194-7 in their 40 overs.

And they then dismissed the visitors for 168 with 3.3 overs left, Colin Leighton taking 4-18-6.3, and Scudamore and Hugh Smith two wickets apiece.

Goodrich 1sts lashed Luctonians by nine wickets at home, Harry Porter firing an unbeaten 73 and Sam Griffiths 54 not out as they scored 177-1 in 24.3 overs chasing down 176-7 off 45 overs.

The 2nds also won big in the reverse fixture, Joseph Griffiths hitting 78 not out backed by Sean Weller with 44, Liam Williams 32 not out and Colin Walker 25 in their 219-3 off 30 overs, before blitzing the opposition batting for 52 in 23.3 overs.

Chief destroyer was Andy Waldis with 5-12-5 while Matt Davies took 3-7-3

Ross 1st XI, who travel to face Goodrich on Wednesday night (July 17), lost by six wickets at home to Kington after posting 137-9 in their 45 overs, Muhammed Noufal Fazaludeen scoring 41 and Ben Element 37.

The visitors then eased to 140-4 with 8.9 overs to spare, Sachin Anil taking 3-22-9 and Chris Keywood the other wicket.

The 2nds also lost the reverse fixture at Kington by 215 runs, all out for 53 after being set 268-7 off 40 overs, Phil Davies taking four of the hosts' wickets and Shyam Bharadwaj two.
