The county summer league saw 11 teams drawn in two divisions to play for a place in the end of season final.
In the Larks division, last year’s finalists Woolhope 2 and Ross Rockers were drawn together. Despite losing their home match against defending champions, Woolhope, early in the season, Ross then went unbeaten for the rest of the campaign. They rounded off with a convincing win at Woolhope to win the division from their rivals.
This division also saw the debut in league bowls of the Golden Valley club, only 3 years after the club was formed, and, although they struggled against some of the county’s strongest teams, they will have gained from the experience and vowed to come back stronger next year.
The Swallows division was tightly contested right to the last match, with teams taking points from each other throughout the season such that no team could establish a clear advantage. By the time the last match came around the leaders, Llangarron, had a 3-point lead over third placed Woolhope 1 and faced them at home with second placed Aston Ingham, having completed their fixtures.
Llangarron held their nerve and ran out comfortable winners in the match to take their place in the final at Upton Bishop.
In the first session of games in the final, the Singles was a tightly fought contest, with Ian Park edging it for Ross after Jamie Harris narrowly failed to pull out a game, winning last shot in the deciding end of the game.
A convincing win for Ross in the Fours, however, meant that Llangarron faced an uphill task to salvage the match after the refreshment break.
Llangarron kept the Triples game tight, but Ross secured the win, and the Pairs was another convincing win for Ross who took the trophy for the second time.
The County Association President, Jamie Harris, who had played in the defeated Llangarron team, presented the trophy to Ross captain Ian Park.
