The Wilton Court Hotel has been included, for the first time, in the Visit Wales Gold Award List of accommodation for 2008/09. The Wilton Court joins just six other hotels who have been acknowledged with this prestigious accolade.

The Gold Award recognises and rewards 'outstanding quality, exceptional comfort and hospitality' in the serviced accommodation sector in Wales. All businesses in this sector graded by Visit Wales were considered for inclusion on this list – they could not apply to be on it.

Those who achieved a sufficiently high score at their most recent grading assessment were selected for mystery shopper testing. In addition to delivering a high standard to the mystery customer, they were also asked to demonstrate their commitment to training and accessibility. The Gold Award is an additional award, exclusively for businesses already part of Visit Wales' star grading schemes.

In the heart of rural Herefordshire, just five miles from the Welsh border and a 15 minute walk over the bridge into Ross, the Wilton Court has enjoyed its idyllic setting since the 1500s. Ten distinctively and individually decorated en suite bedrooms overlook either the River Wye or the hotel's private garden. The hotel serves the finest local and seasonal produce in its Mulberry Restaurant and the Wilton Bar.

On hearing of Wilton Court's success, owner Roger Wynn said, "To be judged amongst the best in Wales is an incredible honour. Our whole team works incredibly hard and I am thrilled for them that all their dedication is recognised by a much coveted award.

"My wife, Helen and I would like to thank all our members of staff for their wonderful attention to the smallest of details and their enthusiasm for ensuring that we consistently exceed the expectations of our guests.'
