Regular guests, and the volunteers who help, at the Royal Voluntary Service Friday Lunch Club have been left devasted at being given notice to leave their home for the past 20 years, the Ryefield Centre. Rumours had been circulating in Ross for a couple of weeks that the Centre itself was to close, but this was refuted by local Councillors, including the Mayor of Ross, Cllr Chris Bartrum, as reported in last week's Ross Gazette.
This week a council spokesman confirmed that the centre is not closing and that the children's centre is not closing either.
However there are plans to reduce the amount of space used by adult social care and the RVS Friday Lunch Club will hold their last meeting on April 11th. Some of the volunteers have questioned why, if the Ryefield Centre is not closing, they have to leave, as the Centre offers all the facilties they need and "It is just for a couple of hours on a Friday once a week."
