West Mercia police will receive an investment of more than £200 million to further support action being taken to combat drug and alcohol misuse.

Local authorities and their partners across England are going to receive a share of the £267 million investment as part of the Government’s 10-year ‘From Harm to Hope’ drugs strategy, which PCC John Campion leads in Wes Mercia.

The funding, which will be rolled out in April 2024, will help improve the treatment available for those who struggle with drug addiction with an aim to reduce crime and save lives. 

PCC John Campion, Senior Responsible Officer for the Local Combatting Drugs Partnerships in West Mercia, said: “I hear regularly from residents about their concerns in relation to drugs and the crime associated with it’s use, therefore this additional funding is going to make a real difference.

“It will provide further support to the work myself and the combatting Drugs Partnerships are already undertaking in West Mercia by educating people about the dangers of drugs, intervening with the right help when substance misuse happens and enforcing the law to stop criminals profiting from misery. 

“I am committed to tackling the issue of drugs misuse within society and ensuring those who need it, receive the best support they can to overcome their addiction and prevent harm being caused to others."
