A new national Code of Ethics was launched, Wednesday, January 24. The changes reflect the challenges of modern-day policing, while outlining the professional behaviours that the public can expect to see from officers, staff and volunteers.

The nine principles from the 2014 Code of Ethics have been mapped into three principles: public service, courage, respect and empathy.

On the day of the announcement, Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “While crime and the ways to tackle it are ever-changing, the principles that form the foundation of policing are set in stone.

“The public, West Mercia Police and I want an effective police service that is focused on tackling crime and bringing offenders to justice.

“The refreshed principles will sit at the heart of the force and have the right focus on delivering a professional service that communities rightly expect and deserve.”
