Flooding has long been a concern to many people in Ross and there were hopes that the Flood Alleviation scheme would put paid to the damage and disruption caused when so much rain falls that the sewage and drainage systems in the town can not cope.
This does not happen very often but this year occurred three times in a few weeks and with the prediction that weather will be wetter in future many people think more needs to be done.
Local businessman Simon Porter is worried about Smallbrook which is almost covered by weeds and he has approached Herefordshire Council suggesting that they be cleared to allow the water to flow more freely. He said that the Council has said that cutting weeds makes them grow but as the weeds are now well inside the tunnel he thinks that doing nothing is not a sensible option.
Retired civil engineer Keith Horne regularly checks the brooks around Ross as he believes that although the flood alleviation scheme works up to a point there are still some problems so it is not doing the job yet.
