A mother from Llangarron has contacted the Ross Gazette, wishing to make people aware of the hazards of diesel spillage on the roads, which may be caused through over-filling the fuel tank, not securing the fuel cap properly, or a cap which is faulty.

Susan Jeynes told the Gazette that her daughter was involved in an accident, which she believes was caused by spilt diesel on the road. She said: “On Tuesday (January 5th), my daughter Amy was involved in an incident that involved diesel on the road. She was very incredibly lucky that she just sustained whip lash, cuts and bruising.”

Susan was distraught that her daughter was involved in such a horrible incident, which could have been much worse.

Amy lives in New Street in Ross-on-Wye and the incident took place on the B4221 near Kilcot.

Susan continued: “Amy is very shaken by this event and still in shock, however I felt it was important to raise public awareness of the potential devastating effects of diesel on the road.”

Susan added: “One of the things that has also upset Amy, is that she has been unable to put in an insurance claim as this would mean admitting liability, and therefore agreeing that the accident was her fault.

“Amy has been driving for ten years, and admitting liability would lead to the loss of her nine years no claims bonus and a substantial increase in premiums.

“Amy has lost her car, had to pay for its recovery, she has whiplash, not to mention having to deal with the mental anguish that this is causing her.”
