A NEW, vibrant community space in the centre of Ross-on-Wye has formally been opened by the High Sheriff of Herefordshire.
With a phenomenal final push, the finishing last touches of the renovation of the building in Corpus Christi Lane were still being carried out at midnight the night before @the Hub had its grand opening the following morning.
The new facility is place where the community thrives with support always being at hand, and opportunities for personal growth are abundant.
At Saturday’s opening Pat Churchward, the High Sheriff of Herefordshire, was welcomed over 50 people who had attended whilst cutting the ribbon and then inviting the guest to take a look around.
Mrs Churchward observed that @The Hub is a community project, a space for all, to improve quality and conditions of life, to develop skills and to meet local needs. A safe place, a haven, a place of peace, a place of respite.
The driving force behind the project is Milly Boylan who had the idea for @the HUB while working as a support worker, but had nowhere suitable to meet people to discuss their needs, and to give them the support they needed to live their lives.
The team behind @the Hub said that the facility has been made possible through funding from Herefordshire Community Foundation.
Director Annie Fisher explained that the success and sustainability of @the Hub would not have been possible without the generous contributions of its grant funders and local benefactors.
“Their dedication to investing in initiatives that prioritise community well-being and empowerment has been instrumental in shaping our vision into a reality,” she said.
“Through their financial support, @the Hub has been able to facilitate and maintain a welcoming and inclusive space that serves as a gathering point for community members to connect, collaborate, and thrive.
“We are so grateful to our funders for their commitment to our mission and their belief in the power of community-driven initiatives.
“Together with all of the local tradespeople who have helped us and all of the donations received, we are able to create a legacy of positivity and impact that will resonate for generations to come”.
“If you would like to come and see for yourself what we are doing and what it's all about, call in on Monday, Thursday or Friday between 9.30am and 12.30pm.”
● The project has been financed by the Herefordshire Together Fund, distributed by the Herefordshire Community Foundation and supported by Healthwatch Herefordshire. This has been made possible by Public Health at Herefordshire Council for impactful community-led initiatives to reach families in need, improve emotional well-being and community cohesion.
