A SELECT crowd gathered at the Wormelow War Memorial, a cherry tree on the Millennium Green, for the village’s Remembrance commemorations.

The service was led by Rev’d Mark Johnson and featured poems delivered by pupils of Much Birch Primary School, who also laid a wreath at the memorial.

Other wreaths were laid by representatives of Herefordshire Council, South Herefordshire MP Jesse Norman along with the local branch of the Royal British Legion, Much Birch Parish Council, The Pilgrim Hotel and The Carrot and Wine store. Other participants also laid wreaths on behalf of other organisations while individual placed crosses at the memorial.

Event organiser Rosemary Rigby laid a cross in memory of the Anglo French Second World War Spy Violette Szabo – a museum dedicated to the heroine’s life, is located on the Millennium Green.
