Howle Hill achieved an impressive 8 - 3 victory in the George Sandoe cup against higher graded opposition when they played Newnham Reserves at The Talbots on Saturday, November 7th.
To be fair to Newnham, they started with only 10 men, and without their regular goalkeeper for 35 minutes.
In this time the Hill men put six goals past the stand-in goalkeeper with no reply. Goals by Bobby Hatch (2) Ben Tumelty (2) and Craig Davies (2) meant that at half time the home side was in a very commanding position.
In the second half Newnham succeeded in pulling a goal back, the only time Chris Cooke in goal had anything to do, but in reply, Hatch completed his hat-trick.
The back four of Leighton Hall, Mark Ward, Peter Martin and Paul Element were never seriously tested and chances were still being created by the midfield of Anthony Ballinger, Lee Barrington, Steve French and Craig Davies.
Tumelty then got his third goal and the home side's manager was able to make changes, giving a deserved rest to those players coming off the pitch.
Newnham kept plugging away and were rewarded with two more goals, to give the scoreline a more respectable slant.
The Vine Tree Inn Man of the Match was Steve French.
Howle Hill are next in action on November 22nd when they are at home to Longhope.
