THE PEOPLE of Ross-on-Wye have been commended for their commitment to local parks and gardens, which continue to flourish thanks to community support and funding.
Representing the town council, Rob Taylor expressed his gratitude to residents for their involvement in enhancing the town’s green spaces, particularly through sponsorships for the Ross Arboretum, where residents funded new trees at £50 each.
These efforts have helped Ross become a standout community in this year’s regional awards. Many local families and organisations have embraced the opportunity to sponsor trees and contribute to park upkeep, fostering a sense of pride and ownership in their shared green spaces.
Ross parks have gained recognition in the 2024 awards from the Royal Horticultural Society and Heart of England in Bloom, honouring two local green spaces: the Thomas Blake Memorial & Sensory Garden and the Ross Arboretum.
The Thomas Blake Memorial & Sensory Garden has been awarded Level five - Outstanding in the society’s "It's Your Neighbourhood" programme, the highest rating within the initiative. Meanwhile, the Ross Arboretum has achieved Level four - Thriving, celebrating the area's flourishing contributions to the community and nature.
Keith Weed, president of the society, presented the awards, highlighting Ross’. commitment to maintaining beautiful, accessible green spaces as part of the Britain in Bloom initiative.
