Antony Gawen Grubb, known as Tony, passed away on June 6th, 2017, aged 80.

Growing up in Bridstow, Ross-on-Wye, Tony started playing golf aged 12. He made it his main sport while studying at Malvern College and became an assistant at Fulwell Golf Club aged 17.

After completing National Service in Cyprus, he returned to Fulwell, and in 1958 he won the fist of two Assistants’ Championships. He later moved to Porters Park Golf Club and then to Coombe Hill, Surrey.

Tony was twice sponsored to tour the golf circuit in the United States and in 1964 he won the PGA Championship, his greatest professional achievement. After a spell working on the family fruit farm he returned to golf and joined the Seniors European Tour. travelling with his wife, Rosemary – a most trusted caddy, this was a very special time for them both. He was made an honorary life member of the PGA and Ross-on-Wye Golf Club.

Tony was a family man, quiet, modest and kind. He enjoyed time at home, walking his dog and making his model aircraft, Everyone who knew him, even in passing, will feel this loss very deeply.

He leaves his beloved wife, Rosemary, his daughter, Amanda, grandchildren, Logan, Sam and Joe, stepdaughter, Jessica, and her children, Abigail and Theo, and sister, Gillie, along with many very dear friends.

A funeral service was held on June 15th at St Mary’s Church, Little Birch and donation were made to the Forever Hounds Trust.
